The Portuguese Way

The Portuguese Way, as its name suggests,  It is a route that crosses almost all of Portugal from South to North.  From the 12th century to the present day,  The pilgrimage routes departed from the neighboring country from such important population centers as:  Lisbon, Santarem, Coimbra, Porto, Braga ...,  and the main door of  access to Galicia was and still is the ancient city of Tui.  And it is precisely  in this border town where we have located the beginning of this journey.

We will start the trip in the city of Tui and the whole way will run through Galician territory. its  The profile is most diverse and surprising for the countless corners it houses.  A permanent succession of villages, bridges, rural chapels, crossroads, pazos, sanctuaries ..., in a mountain and sea environment, and adorned by unparalleled vegetation, which makes this Way one of the most curious and beautiful.  All this without forgetting the passage through the interesting towns of Pontesampaio, Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis, Padrón, until reaching the city of Santiago de  Compostela.

Itinerary

Day 1: Accommodation in Tui
You will arrive at Tui on your own. You can collect your Pilgrim's Credential or Pilgrim's Passport at the Cathedral of Santa María de Tui. In addition, if you arrive in time to this beautiful city, you can take a walk and in just a few meters you will find yourself on the International Bridge that connects Spain with Portugal, specifically it is located between the towns of Tui and Valença do Minho joining the two banks of the River Miño. In Valença do Minho you can visit its Fortress and buy some souvenirs in its famous market that is held every Wednesday in the open air.

Day 2:  TUI STAGE - O PORRIÑO → 17 KM / 4-5 H

We will leave  back Tui to start the first stage of the  route. The road will generally run along paths and roads parallel to the Louro River, with some sections of asphalt tracks and secondary roads. We will finish the stage in O Porriño, where we will transfer to the accommodation.

Day 3: STAGE O PORRIÑO - ARCADE → 23 KM / 5-6 H
